ZADIFO Wins the Africa Diaspora Alliance Vice Presidency
The national diaspora and allied civil society organizations in Africa have finalized the establishment of Africa Diaspora Alliance (AfDA), a continental diaspora body that will focus on supporting and promoting integration of the African diaspora and people of the African descent in Africa’s social and economic agenda.
During a meeting held on 16th May 2021, an interim standing committee of the continental body was established and The Zambia Diaspora Foundation (ZADIFO) was elected Interim Vice President. Kenya Diaspora Alliance was elected interim President of the Africa Diaspora Alliance.
The event was jointly moderated by Keya Diaspora Alliance and Africa Diaspora Business Round Table in Nairobi. The continental body has been spearheaded by the Kenya Diaspora Alliance and Zambian Diaspora Foundation and was attended by several diaspora organizations on the continent and the diaspora.
AfDA will empower the African diaspora to meaningfully and effectively participate in and hasten realization of AU’s Agenda 2063 as well as the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA, among other benefits. The continental body will also consolidate the efforts of international Diaspora organizations to support Africa’s economic, healthcare, education and technical growth.
Special guest of honor was the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO) and was chaired by the Africa Diaspora Business Round Table based in Washington DC. The continental body will initially be based in Nairobi with representations selected in all the 6 regions of Africa.
AfDA shall comprise a committee structure that will include among others the following standing committees; Education, Economic Development, Healthcare, African Government Relations, African Culture and the Diaspora, Gender and Women Affairs as well as Youth Empowerment.
The establishment of the diaspora continental body will is key in supporting continental diaspora policy protocols and harnessing diaspora resources and adding value towards realization of the national development plans, Sustainable Development Goals and the Africa Union Agenda 2063.
